Famous Attractions in Udupi

Lord Krishna Temple

It is one of the most famous pilgrimage attractions in Udupi. It is well regarded as Udupi Sri Krishna Matha. The Lord Krishna’s idol is beautified with jewels and golden chariot. The temple follows a unique pattern of worship. An only silver-plated window having nine holes or Navagraha Kitiki are used to perform the worship. The temple is covered by UdupiAnantheshwara temples, which are thousands of years old. Devotees from different parts of the world visit this temple. It is well regarded as Mathura of the South.

You should take at least 2 to 3 hours to visit the whole temple complex, and the temple is located only 5 km from the city center. The temple remains open from 4 AM to 9 PM, and Nirmalya Visarjan Pooja is held at 5.30 AM every morning.

Malpe Beach

It is one of the most unexplored and beautiful beaches in India. It is located around 6 km from the city center and 66 km from Mangalore. Both locals and foreigners flock here to indulge in different water sports. It has pleasant weather and white sand to add to its charm. This marvel has a beautiful seashore and four rocky islands. You need at least 2 to 3 hours to visit the whole place.

St. Mary’s Island

St. Mary’s Island is the land where Vasco De Gama made his first entry to the country and held a significant presence. It is the land of endless beauty. It houses abundant wildlife, rock monoliths, and white sand beaches. It is located only 4 miles off the coast of Karnataka and houses some of the most beautiful beaches of the nation.

It has secluded beaches to spend some great time with family and friends. It is well known to have an exceptional geological treasure with four different islands – North Island, Daryabahadurgarh Island, South Island, and Coconut Island. A shoreline made of crystalline rocks occurred when Madagascar and India were separated. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset here. The ferries run from 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM from Malpe. Tourists cannot visit this island from June to September.

The destruction of water and land resources can change the whole ecosystem and most species are categorized as Endangered and Threatened. Today, we are going to discuss the top endangered mammals you must see before they get extinct.

Indian Lions

They are the last subspecies of lions found only in the Gir National Park, Junagarh Gujarat. Panthera Leo Persica is one of the five members of the big cat family spotted in India.

Bengal Tiger

The national animal of India, the Royal Bengal Tiger has been endangered as their total population is no larger than 2226. Panthera tigris is the largest tiger subspecies in the world.

Dhole (Indian wild dogs)

It is the only wild dog species found in India and categorized as endangered. They are highly social and they can compete with leopards and tigers in the Terai region of Indo-Gangetic plains.

Blackbuck

It is among the largest antelope species which are native to India. They are mostly found in open woodlands and plains. A large population of Blackbuck is found in the Velvador National Park.

Red Panda

It is the medium arboreal mammal which is found in eastern Himalayan region of India. It is a bit larger than a cat and the only surviving genus Ailurus species.

Indian Wild Ass

The Onager subspecies, Indian wild ass are found majorly in the Wild Ass Sanctuary, the Rann of Kutch, and its nearby regions of Gujarat. These are considered to be one of the fastest animals in India and they rely on leaves, grass, and fruits for survival.

Nilgiri Tahr

It is one of the most endangered mountain goat species found in the Nilgiri Mountains of South India. Nilgiri Tahr lives in the open grasslands of the Western Ghats in the state of Tamil Nadu. 

Lion-tailed Macaque

These are the primate species found widely in the Western Ghats of South India. It is the most endangered and smallest species of macaques only found in India. They depend on various trees and fruits for a living.

Snow Leopard

It is the big mountain cat that is found in Indian subcontinent regions. Only limited numbers of these mammals are found in the world. Hence it is considered endangered. It falls among the five members of India’s largest big cat family.

Wild Water Buffalo

It is one of the largest bovine native animals found in the Indian subcontinent, especially in the state of Assam. They are found in and around Manas National Park, Kaziranga National Park, and Dibru-Saikhowa National Park of Assam, and some are also living in Chandigarh. 

Golden Langur

It is the old wild monkey endangered and native to Assam and is bounded towards the south of Brahmaputra River. It generally feeds on buds, seeds, and flowers and lives in troops. It is one of the near-extinct primate species in India.
