Famous Attractions in Udupi
Lord Krishna Temple
It is one of the most famous pilgrimage attractions in
Udupi. It is well regarded as Udupi Sri Krishna Matha. The Lord Krishna’s idol
is beautified with jewels and golden chariot. The temple follows a unique
pattern of worship. An only silver-plated window having nine holes or Navagraha
Kitiki are used to perform the worship. The temple is covered by UdupiAnantheshwara temples, which are thousands of years old. Devotees from
different parts of the world visit this temple. It is well regarded as Mathura
of the South.
You should take at least 2 to 3 hours to visit the whole
temple complex, and the temple is located only 5 km from the city center. The
temple remains open from 4 AM to 9 PM, and Nirmalya Visarjan Pooja is held at
5.30 AM every morning.
Malpe Beach
It is one of the most unexplored and beautiful beaches in
India. It is located around 6 km from the city center and 66 km from Mangalore.
Both locals and foreigners flock here to indulge in different water sports. It
has pleasant weather and white sand to add to its charm. This marvel has a
beautiful seashore and four rocky islands. You need at least 2 to 3 hours to
visit the whole place.
St. Mary’s Island
St. Mary’s Island is the land where Vasco De Gama made his
first entry to the country and held a significant presence. It is the land of
endless beauty. It houses abundant wildlife, rock monoliths, and white sand
beaches. It is located only 4 miles off the coast of Karnataka and houses some
of the most beautiful beaches of the nation.
It has secluded beaches to spend some great time with family
and friends. It is well known to have an exceptional geological treasure with
four different islands – North Island, Daryabahadurgarh Island, South Island,
and Coconut Island. A shoreline made of crystalline rocks occurred when
Madagascar and India were separated. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset here.
The ferries run from 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM from Malpe. Tourists cannot visit this
island from June to September.
