Located just a few miles from Kharkhorin, Erdene Zuu
Monastery once had up to 100 temples at the peak. Established in 1586 by Altai
Khan, the monastery is open for visitors who can stroll around the ground and
soak in the ultimate beauty of temples dated back to the 16th century. Guided
tours are also available for a small fee to explore the interiors.
Amarbayasgalant Monastery
With beautiful surroundings and 28 temples, the Amarbayasgalant
Monastery could be nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site very soon.
Located in the verdant, serene and hilly landscape of Ivon Gol River Valley,
the natural theatre across the monastery is truly beautiful. Along with the
compound, you can explore several beautiful sculptures to look around in the
green baize of its stunning scenery.
Gobi Desert
The world’s fifth-largest desert, Gobi Desert is stretched
over both Mongolia and China, particularly the south of the nation. It is truly
a beautiful sight and a serene contrast to several major landmarks of Mongolia.
While getting there, don’t miss visiting the Khongor Sand Dunes.
Dornod Mongolia Steppe
Dornod Mongolia Steppe is a vast and protected ecosystem in
eastern Mongolia. It is one of the largest ecosystems on the planet. It is
known to have impressive and vast landscapes and houses more than 40,000
white-tailed gazelles migrating through the region every year. It is truly a
delight for wildlife photographers.
Orkhon Valley
The cultural landscape of Orkhon Valley is truly a UNESCO
World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful places to visit in Mongolia.
Located in the heart of Mongolia, Orkhon Valley is deeply steeped in history.
The landscape houses several architectural ruins dated back to the 6th century.
It also includes Genghis Khan’s capital Kharkhorin, in the 13th and 14th
centuries.
