Singalila National Park and Red Panda Tour – A Detailed Guide





The wilderness of the east is a paradise to the strangest and incredible flora and fauna. Singalila National Park is one of the best examples of having such treasures. Established in the year 1986, the park is one of the few places in the world where the iconic Red Panda is found. Location – Singalila Ridge of the Eastern Himalayan ranges. Phalut and Sandakphu are the highest mountains in West Bengal and are covered in the park. River Sirikhola and Ramman pass through this park.

What is Red Panda?
Red Panda is a rare species of panda family found in hilly Himalayan ranges of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Darjeeling.  This endangered species is native to cold regions of Himalayas and mostly feeds on eggs, bamboos, berries, and flowers.

Best Time to Visit
You can visit Singalila National Park during spring and Autumn or winter seasons.

Spring season lasts from March to May when you can witness the rich diversity of flora and fauna in the national park. The entire forest blooms right with orchids and rhododendrons of different types.

Autumn/Winter season lasts from October to December when you can witness snow-capped mountains adorning the crystal clear skies.

From June to September during monsoons, the park remains closed because of heavy rains.

Getting There
Manebhanjan is the closest town to Singalila National Park which is well connected through roads and all major cities of West Bengal.

By Air
Bagdogra International Airport is the closest airport and is located around 4 hours of drive to Singalila National Park from the airport. You can even hire a taxi from the airport to get there.

By Train
Located around 13 km from Tonglu point, Ghum is the closest railhead accessible through Darjeeling Toy Train. New Jalpaiguri is the nearest broad gauge railway station connected to New Delhi and other major cities. From NJP, you can get a road transport to Ghum.

By Road
There are motorable roads connecting all major cities in the state to Singalila National Park.
